TCAT Business Solutions at Telford College has been developing Business Improvement Techniques programmes for three years and has worked with many companies helping them to implement continuous improvement tools and techniques.

The development of this process has created a flexible and bespoke programme that combines a vocational qualification such as Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering with Business Improvement Techniques.

At shop floor level the candidates are appraised to ascertain their current skills and knowledge against the required standards, training needs are identified and all the appropriate training delivered in the most cost effective way for the business needs.

The assessment includes the ability to carry out every role in the most effective manner. During the implementation of the programme the candidates are challenged with reviewing the way they perform their job in terms of its effectiveness.

Concurrently a small team, including team leaders, will be under a Business Improvement Programme. They will be challenged with looking for and making improvements in the workplace.

This dual approach identifies the company's real need for skills improvement and where cost savings can be made and resolved - with the influence from shop floor to supervisor level.
